Art In The Park

Foothills Art Society and the Malone Recreation Park are proud to be co-sponsoring a series of free art workshops this summer.

The summer series will start the week of June 30th and continue for six weeks ending the week of August 8th. Local artists will lead the free workshops and each workshop will celebrate children and nature. Funds were made available by The Young Artist in Action Exhibit hosted by Holy Family School.

The Malone Recreation Park is also proud to offer a free lunch program funded federally through Com Links.

The lunch program is available from June 30th until August 8th, Monday thru Friday. The lunches will be served from 11:30 am on a first come first serve basis. The free lunch program is available to everyone.

The workshops will be held from 1pm until 3pm in the Duane Street Front Pavilion rain or shine.

Tuesday, July 1st and Thursday, July 3rd . Landscapes in Nature with Pam May.

Pam May is a local artist known for her landscape paintings. The workshop will include a nature walk and instruction in painting the beautiful landscapes that surround the park. (Recommended 6 years and older).

Friday, July 11th. Expressing Nature with Lynne Taylor.

Lynne Taylor is a local artist and counselor at North Star. She has a beautiful way of bringing out the best in every child she meets. The workshop will include a nature walk and instruction in journaling. Each child will be given their own journal to visually capture what they see and think. (Recommended 8 years and older).

Tuesday, July 15th and Thursday, July 17th. Dancing in Nature with Kristen Glazier.

Kristin Glazier is a local artist who dances with a professional dance troop. She is responsible for bringing David Taylor Dance Theatre to Malone this June for a weekend children’s workshop and performance. Dancing in Nature will include instruction on free movement dance and expressing yourself. (All Ages).

Tuesday, July 22nd and Thursday, July 24th. Nature Up-Close with Karen Lamitee-King.

Karen is a local artist and retired art teacher. She designed the Art Exposure program at the VIC in Paul Smiths. The workshop will include a nature walk and drawing found objects up-close. (Recommended 8 years and older).

Tuesday, July 29th and Thursday, July 31st . Mosaic Art and Nature with Julia Holmes.

Julia is a local glass artist who loves children and their imaginations. The workshop will include a nature walk and instruction in the mosaic arts. Each child will create a mosaic tile from glass and objects found in nature. (All Ages).

Tuesday, August 5th and Thursday, August 7th . Theatre in the Park with Gina Strachan.

Gina Strachan is a local producer of community theatrical programs. Her love for October and pumpkins brought about “A North County Scare” in 2007 and will again in October 2008. Her workshop will include mask making, acting and dramatic expression. (All Ages).
