Chief Stephen J. Stone

Born in Malone August of 1959, attending Malone Central School system graduating from Franklin Academy High School in 1977. Attended North Country Community College earning a 2-year degree in Business Administration. Chief Stone has been a resident of the Village of Malone most of his life and has been an active volunteer in the community for several years. He was a Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructor for several years, instructing courses for local communities, schools, ski patrol, and fire departments. Chief Stone is an active member of the volunteer fire department since February of 1982.

The chief started his career in law enforcement in June of 1986 as a patrol officer with the Saranac Lake Village Police Department. He transferred to the Village of Malone Police Department in June of 1987, rising through the ranks to now serve as chief of police. While serving as a patrol officer he assisted in starting the departments police bicycle patrol and domestic violence programs. He was promoted to sergeant in May of 2003, to Assistant Chief in may of 2005, then to Chief of Police in June of 2006.
